February's IT Girl Talitha Getty

Talitha Getty was the beautiful and stylish wife of oil heir and philanthropist John Paul Getty, Jr. Talitha Getty was a major style icon of the 1960s, perfecting a jet-setter bohemian aesthetic to her look. The two posed for an iconic photograph of the two of them on a roof-top in Marrakesh, Morocco in January 1969. The photo shows Talitha Getty crouched down leaning on a wall and her sunglassed, hooded husband in the background. The Getty's owned a lavish Moorish paradise in Marrakesh visted often by the Rolling Stones and Yves Saint Laurent. Getty popularized the caftan, she primarly wore YSL, Ossie Clark and Valentino along with ethnic caftans, Balinese wraps, Palestinian wedding dresses, and Moroccan djellabas.  Talitha Getty died of a herion overdose in Rome, Italy on July 14, 1971. She died within the same twelve month period Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Edie Sedgwick and Jim Morrison, other cultural icons of the 1960s.
